I absolutely love Twix bars, they are my favorite candyJ. They are best thing in the world! The only thing that makes Twix bars even better is to have them all the time! Now you can! Homemade Twix are easy to make and also taste better than the real ones!
This recipe is very simple because the ingredients are probably already in your cabinets. However you may have to take a trip to the local store. All you need is 2 sticks of butter, ¾ cup of powdered sugar, one egg, 2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 2 ¼ all purpose flour, ½ teaspoon of salt and a baking sheet. These are the ingredients for the shortbread! What you need for the caramel filling is… 3 - 5.5 ounce bags of soft caramels, 2 tablespoons of milk and a dash of salt. For the chocolate covering you will need, 12 ounces (240 grams) milk chocolate that are cut into pieces and 1-teaspoon full of vegetable shortening if needed to make the chocolate softer for dipping.
Time for the shortbread: the crunchy center and start of the Twix! First, you pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine the butter and sugar in a large bowl, and mix until light and fluffy! Then you add egg and beat until it’s all mixed together. You can use an electric mixer if you really wanted to! Now, mix in the vanilla, flour, and salt until dough comes together. After that entire goody mixing stuff, place the bowl of the dough in the refrigerator until it’s dense! Now, all you have to do is roll it out on the baking sheet! The last step is to bake for 20-30 minutes.
Now for the gooey delicious caramel filling! Place milk, caramels and salt in a microwave-able bowl and heat it in a microwave for about 1 minute. Then stop and stir and keep repeating until it’s nice and melting. Pour caramel over shortbread. Once caramel has set, cut into whatever sizes, shapes or pieces you want.
Now for the best part of all! Chocolate covering! Temper chocolate and add teaspoon of butter to help make the chocolate thinner. Dip bars in the tempered chocolate and place it on wax paper! Don’t move it! Store it in the fridge and when it hardens, it is time for a snack! These snacks are great for parties or just a lazy day at home! They tastes great and are super delicious!
